| REMEC Awarded Contract to Develop Transmit/Receive Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuit for L-Band Space Based Radar -SBR- |
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 3, 2003--REMEC Inc. (Nasdaq:REMC) today announced that the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Aerospace Components and Subsystems Concepts Division, Air Force Material Command, at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio selected REMEC's MMIC group to develop and test Transmit/Receive (T/R) Microwave Monolithic Integrated Circuits (MMIC) for potential use in future L-band space based phase array radars. Under the terms of the current design evaluation contract, REMEC will complete the investigative study phase then, as part of the latest contract award, apply these innovative MMIC design concepts to produce a fully integrated T/R MMIC. "We are very impressed with REMEC's MMIC work," said Steve Kiss, technical director of the Aerospace Components Division. "REMEC's designs offer the potential to finally crack the MMIC cost barrier." "REMEC is pleased that AFRL has selected our MMIC group to support the SBR initiative," said Ron Ragland, chairman and CEO of REMEC. "AFRL's selection of REMEC demonstrates their confidence in our design capabilities. REMEC is committed to supporting innovative design concepts for use in both our wireless communication products and military programs. We understand that the market place is looking to break the cost models. SBR is one example of many military applications that can benefit from our design expertise. Next generation programs must demonstrate cost-effective platforms and REMEC will continue to offer innovations to make these systems affordable."
