REMEC Announces FWA Pact with ZTE

SAN DIEGO, June 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- REMEC, Inc. (Nasdaq: REMC), a global provider of microwave radio and fixed broadband wireless DSL networks, announced today that it has signed an OEM Agreement with ZTE Ltd of Shenzhen China to supply its ExcelAir(R) 70 Fixed Wireless Access System (FWA).

ZTE currently supplies telecommunications equipment to all of the Chinese telecom operators and to many others worldwide and has contracts in place with Chinese Operators to deploy FWA systems during 2003. The agreement between REMEC and ZTE will complete ZTE's FWA product line and enable it to support operators by providing improved fixed wireless services in a cost effective and timely manner.

"We've been highly pleased with REMEC's technology," said ZTE Vice President and head of Mobile Communication Products, Ye Weiming. "We looked at many technologies in the market before selecting REMEC's ExcelAir(R) 70 Fixed Wireless Access System. A key requirement for ZTE was to select a technology that allowed us to offer high-speed internet access at attractive prices to operators in China and worldwide. After thorough testing, REMEC's ExcelAir(R) 70 FWA solution has proven to be a perfect complement to ZTE's BWA product line to satisfy "last mile" access needs throughout China and the Global Market."

"Partnership with ZTE for our FWA product is a major strategic achievement," said Ron Ragland, Chairman and CEO of REMEC. "It is important for REMEC's global wireless strategy to continue its efforts in providing competitive, leading edge integrated solutions that enable wireless operators in China and worldwide to build networks with a profitable business model for their telecommunication needs. We believe REMEC's FWA platform is best in class, providing a cost-effective platform for broadband fixed wireless services, as evident by the growing demand from 3.5 GHz operators worldwide."

Sui Lin, CEO of REMEC Asia, stated, "We have cooperated with ZTE in supplying RF components and subsystems for several years and during that time we have built a strong working relationship. This FWA OEM Agreement with ZTE is taking our cooperation into a new stage."

REMEC ExcelAir(R) 70 Fixed Wireless Access System is one of the highest capacity and most scalable fixed wireless access systems available. Capable of employing multiple modulations down-stream (64QAM, 16QAM and QPSK) as well as upstream (16 QAM and QPSK), a fully scaled ExcelAir(R) 70 base station has a throughput capacity of over 300 Mbps and supports over 3,000 subscribers. Unlike some of the other products in the market, ExcelAir (R) offers these high capacities while offering a large cell range well over 15 km. ExcelAir(R) is a true multi-service platform and offers high speed internet access, VoIP, VPN, VLAN services along with a carrier grade network management system. The product is now being shipped around the globe for commercial deployments and for trial evaluations to broadband service providers in several countries.
